Employment

There has never been a better time to enter the field of cabinetmaking! More people are retiring from the field than are entering it, and our graduates are finding more opportunities for employment across the nation.

We spend a lot of time cultivating relationships with employers, so that our graduates have more options when it comes time to interview.  Because our students have proven themselves to be safe and skilled in a variety of woodworking operations, we have become the go-to choice for employees for a wide variety of cabinet shops, including some of the top employers in the country.  In fact, we get calls nearly every week from employers looking to hire our graduates, but we don’t have enough graduates to fill all of them.

Please keep in mind our graduates are responsible for finding employment and NESAW offers no guarantee of placement.

See our Graduate Profile page to meet some of our past graduates and where they’re working.  Below are a few endorsements as well as a list of some of the other shops that have hired our graduates.

I am writing to express my gratitude for the education that your students are receiving at NESAW. Over the years, I have hired five of your graduates and all have possessed the knowledge and experience we require for new employees. As an employer for over 25 years, it has not always been easy to find skilled new employees for this trade. We have turned to NESAW as our prime source for new employees as our business has grown over the years, and we’ve been very pleased with the results. All your graduates we have hired have shown and enthusiasm and dedication to continue learning this fine trade, with the foundation of the basics they have learned at NESAW.

Out of three employees in my business, two are former NESAW students. They have been very confident and capable of producing whatever is needed right from the start. It is great to have a pool of trained craftsmen to choose from. Out of all the applicants for job openings at my shop, I always find NESAW students to have a big advantage over other job seekers. I will always be interested in talking with your students about employment in my shop and would not hesitate, if the time is right, to hire another NESAW student.

The New England School of Architectural Woodworking has been a vital part of our Apprentice Program here at Mark Richey Woodworking. The curriculum and hands-on experience that the students receive have prepared them well for a skilled career in Architectural Woodworking. We continue to have a unique partnership and enjoy great success with their graduates.

It is always a challenge to find entry level cabinetmakers with solid training in machine tool practice, reading shop drawings, joinery and fabrication techniques, and basic finishing skills. NESAW has been a great resource for us. Three of our current employees are graduates of their program and valued members of our team.

When I moved my furniture-making business to Western Massachusetts in 2011, NESAW was the first place I called to recruit a new staff. I hired two alumnae right away and they remain key members of our studio today, with many complex furniture pieces under their belts. Their wages have increased along with their skills, and they both will have great woodworking careers.

Littleton Millwork has had the opportunity to employ 3 students over the years that have gone through the training process at NESAW. We are very interested in being involved with the school, as we see that the training the students receive offers them the chance to explore and learn the techniques of cabinetmaking and woodworking; this helps them make their decisions on where they would like to apply the craft. For us at Littleton Millwork, it establishes a base with the individual trainees to continue their training and provide continued growth within the craft.
