Time is flying! We've just finished our fourth week of the new school year in the shop. Amazing what can be learned and accomplished in such a short time. Most of the work has been completed on the cherry shaker tables. We've completed drawing the home cabinet, generated a cutlist, talked about estimating and pricing and are starting to build our first cabinets! The group has broken down many of the plywood parts and chosen their lumber and started to break that down as well. A very productive and enthusiastic group. Busy week in the shop. Everyone finished their cutting board project that teaches milling, gluing, sanding, edge breaking, and routing with a hand held router. Meanwhile, they are also still hard at work on their cherry shaker table project and have started drafting the home cabinet project. TGIF! ... See more

The students have spent the last few days getting their chisels and plane irons sharpened so they're ready when we need them.
The first two weeks have been very busy for everyone learning about properties of wood, getting introduced to the tools and the fundamentals of woodworking and building a series of small projects like sanding blocks, cutting boards, and a sharpening jig.
