School Age Programs

We live in an age where mass production is king and school vocational programs are disappearing. As a result, many young people have never had the opportunity to learn woodworking or even basic skills with hand tools.

That's why we're so excited about our new school age programs. As students are exposed to woodworking tools and shop safety, they also see how math and engineering concepts (at age-appropriate levels) can be used to solve problems in the real world.

These classes require a special After School Enrollment Agreement, which includes Release Forms and a Safety Guidelines Acknowledgement to be signed by both the student and parent/guardian prior to or on the first day of class. Students who have not submitted these forms will not be able to work with the tools.

Please see our calendar for the current schedule and cost.

Elementary After School Program (Grades 4 - 6)

This 8-week introduction to woodworking and the safe use of basic tools also demonstrates how math and engineering concepts are applied in the real world. Under the guidance of an experienced shop teacher and an assistant, students will build two take home projects and learn how to:

  • Safely work in a shop environment
  • Use measuring tools and calculate cuts
  • Engineer individual design features
  • Use hand saws, drills and chisels
  • Use a power dress press and scroll saw
  • Hand sand for a smooth finish

Class meets one day weekly from 3:30 - 4:45. Eye and ear protection is provided. For the safety of all students, class sizes are limited to 10. Register now!

Elementary Saturday Program (Grades 4 - 6)

This 6-hour class is a shortened version of our After School Program. It provides an introduction to woodworking and the safe use of basic tools also demonstrates how math and engineering concepts are applied in the real world. Under the guidance of an experienced shop teacher and an assistant, students will build a small take home project and learn how to:

  • Safely work in a shop environment
  • Use measuring tools and calculate cuts
  • Engineer individual design features
  • Use hand saws, drills and chisels
  • Use a power dress press and scroll saw
  • Hand sand for a smooth finish

Class meets one Saturday from 10 am - 4:40 pm. Eye and ear protection is provided. For the safety of all students, class sizes are limited to 10. Students should provide their own lunch. LImited refrigeration is available. Register now!

Birthday Parties (Ages 7+)

Tired of the same old birthday parties? Now, kids can have fun and learn at our Woodworking Party, held in our shop at One Cottage Street in Easthampton. Each child makes a small take-home project using hand tools and the scroll saw. Eye and ear protection is provided. For each two-hour session, we provide 1 1/2 hours of woodworking instruction and 1/2 hour for cake and presents. Limited refrigeration is available. Maximum of 8 children.

You may sign up online, but please call us to reserve a time. By state law, all children and their parents will be required to sign our standard Enrollment Agreement for children under 18. We will provide a link for you.

Middle/High School After School Program (Ages 14+)

Using a variety of woodworking power and hand tools, students will work together in this 10-week class to design and build a variety of small projects that explore principles like geometry, force and propulsion, structural engineering, cantilevers and physics. Past projects have included cranes, bridges and wind-driven boats. Under the guidance of an experienced shop teacher and an assistant, students learn how to:

  • Safely work in a shop environment
  • Calculate geometric shapes and angles for cutting
  • Use the table saw, router, jointer and planer
  • Use hand saws, drills and chisels
  • Conduct basic joinery operations

Meets one day weekly from 2:30 - 4:00. Eye and ear protection is provided. For the safety of all students, class sizes are limited to 10. Register now!
